Talking Data With Denise

I had the pleasure of chatting with fellow IU grad last Friday. Denise Speer founded Virtual Office Analytics in November 2009, providing data organization solutions for small businesses. She has “years and years” of experience in the field, and she has a passion for helping small businesses (5-10 employees) with software innovation. To contact Denise, visit her website for all the contact information you will need.

Design From An Analytical Perspective

In your own words, what is design?

Communicating a concept; something that reaches all of the senses and triggers emotion.

What is the purpose of design?

To get people to take action; to motivate them to do something.

Have you ever worked with a professional designer?

At one of the companies I used to work for, I had to work closely with the design staff on some projects. They had brand restrictions that had to be followed.

Successful Business Processes

What is the most successful business process you use?

Networking, and also different techniques of getting my name out there.

Have you measured the effects of any of these techniques?

I measured the activity of my website after I sent out some marketing materials.

What measurable results of design would be significant to you?

Positive actions (contacting me, etc.) taken by website users instead of just activity.

Thanks Again, Denise!

It was such a pleasure getting to know Denise. Last week was rather rough, and this was definitely a great way to end the week! This is one of the last interviews I have scheduled, and I already have plenty of changes to make to The Value of Design. I most likely will be starting almost from scratch!
