I Stand Corrected: Email Subscriptions Outweigh RSS

When I find a blog with good content, I subscribe to the RSS feed via a Feed Reader (iGoogle is my personal favorite) to stay informed. I absolutely hate getting mass amounts of emails in a single day that aren’t actually important. I value my time, and it seemed more convenient to me to be able to check for updates at my own leisure instead of having to constantly battle with my Inbox. Well, more than I already do, that is.

To me, it seemed to be common sense that RSS feeds were the more convenient option for any user. Of all the people I had ever talked to about it, they all conferred that RSS feeds were far more convenient than receiving updates via email. I was wrong.

Email Takes the Whole Bakery

A new study conducted by Hubspot has found that email subscriptions to blogs outweigh those of RSS by 12 times. Twelve!!!! I’m still in disbelief. I wonder if anyone actually reads the emails from any of the blogs they subscribe to, or if they end up deleting them so many times that they eventually get caught in the Spam filter. They should do a study on that.

Regardless of my disbelief, however, I stand corrected all the same. I’d better get started on the changes I have to make.
