The Power of Blogging

The internet has given a voice to anyone who dares to speak. Bands/music artists such as Ingrid Michaelson have been discovered on MySpace. While still in college I was offered a freelance job via a MySpace Network contact. The author of one of my favorite blogs to follow was even offered a job through Twitter. It is true that there is power in a single voice, and the internet is giving a platform for anyone to stand on their soapbox and be heard.

I haven’t been as diligent with keeping my blog up because I’m still rather timid. I still view myself as a “recent grad”, and the year I spent working for a company that looked down on me because of my age and inexperience had me nearly convinced that my opinion doesn’t matter. But I must be saying something right, because I’ve been contacted my a number of people saying that my blog is a “great resource”.

The latest of which was Andrea Barrica of Pbworks who has brought something to the table that is rather significant to me. She is offering a give-away of a custom trial of their project management software, somewhat similar to Basecamp. I only just received the first contact from her yesterday, so this isn’t a set deal or anything yet. But it excites me nonetheless because this is very well just the beginning of something great.

So for the next week I’ll be pondering ideas on what sort of contest to hold, or how to determine who I would give the trial to if this does in fact pan out the way I hope. Any ideas would be very much appreciated!

Its time to get back to work. I need to get some letters mailed to potential clients. Yet another exciting thing I’m up to these days.
