How To Time Your Social Media Posts

Figuring out when the best time is to post on social media can be difficult. Here are two methods that you should consider:

1) Maintain A Constant Presence

Post often enough that your name is constantly in the News Feed of your friends, fans, and followers. This can be quite the guessing game and can range anywhere from every 2-20 minutes. An even bigger challenge is making sure that each post has enough value to engage your target audience.

Who this is great for: B2C Retail and Products companies. Examples: The Nest, Etsy, News Channels and Newspapers, Staffing Agencies, etc.

2) Choose Content and Timing Wisely

When first getting started on social media, you’ll want to post at various times with various types of content. A different set of people are on social media at 5am than are on at 2pm, 11pm, etc. Content that engages the 5am crowd might not work for the 2pm crowd. Post a link to a particular blog or page on your website, but change up the words you use to describe that link.

Keep track of the results from your testing. (HootSuite and other tools offer analytics and reports.) After 1-2 months, determine what time of day your posts were most successful, as well as what content was most engaging.

Who this is great for: Small Businesses and Do-It-Yourselfers
